Yummy Weekend

Last Saturday while on our way to Ipoh, we stopped at Taman Mayang to have the famous delicious pan mee (claimed by Alex). It’s a small stall in a corner shop, owned by an auntie. The auntie still can recognized Alex when we reached there, maybe he is her loyal customer?!

Alex asked me to order the dry Pan mee, but I don’t feel like eating dry mee, so I ordered the soup “kopek” pan mee J Definitely, the dry Pan mee is much tasty with the union oil and sauce. Eat it with crunchy ikan bilis, the dry fungus and the preserved minced meat, wow…taste great!!! In addition, if you can take chili, can eat the pan mee with the special made chili sauce – hot and spicy!!!

Mine was also not that bad with the soupy pan mee. The soup was good with “ajinomoto” I think :p

At night, we went to have the famous wantan mee somewhere, half way to Ipoh from Pusing. Don’t know the exact name of that place, but it’s an old old town with old street and shops. Claimed by Alex, the famous Hong Kong artist – Leon Lai came and had the wantan mee long long time ago, almost 10 years ago? Hmm…but I am quite surprised when I saw the place. It’s not even a proper shop, but it’s just a small stall at the roadside. We sit in an old shop where we ordered the drinks. There were also other stalls outside the shops, i.e porridge, assam laksa, chicken rice etc, which we can order and they will deliver the food to you so that u can have it inside the shop.

The mix fruit ice kacang and the hot barli served in the bowl.

Another thing that shocked me was the size of the wantan mee. I could not imagine that the normal size of the wantan mee was so much little that even Keith can have it by himself. Luckily I order the big one (still ok, so so only the size). Pity Alex, he ordered the normal size one and he can finish it just in 2 bites!

The BIG size of wantan mee

The "normal" size of wantan mee!!!

The mee tasted weird…with the “wok” taste. Yes, wantan mee with “wok” taste. It’s not a fried mee though, but it’s so special. Perhaps it’s the secret recipes of that wantan mee! The wantan is really good with the filling of fresh preserved meat.

Seriously, we still hungry after the wantan mee. We decided to go pasar malam nearby to hunt for food again. Surprisingly Alex managed to locate the famous fried carrot cake by an old man (which he thought the old man has retired and he would never have the chance the eat again) and the honey roasted chicken. What a happy Saturday night!!! Alex had his fried carrot cake; I had the honey-roasted chicken and fried yong tau fu while Keith had his favourite chocolate ice cream!!!

The next day afternoon, we went to Ipoh old town – not to have the old town coffee, but the old town tau fu fa and soya bean. Old little shop at the corner selling home made tau fu fa and soya bean for years.

The local can just stopped their cars at the roadside and the worker of the shop will go to them and take the order. Then, the tau fu fa or soya bean will be delivered to them and they can just have it in the car with air-cond without stepping out from their car. After they finish eating or drinking, the worker will go to them again to collect the money. Alternatively, if you think you don’t want to be too “bossy”, u can park you car nearby and walk to the shop under the hot sun, just like us. Order the tau fu fa or soya bean; sit on the long seat of wood or tailored made seats available there, have your tau fu fa and go after you pay. Fast and easy. Go, order, sit, eat, pay and go in minutes!
