Alex and I went to watch Ninja Assassin at KLCC yesterday night. Hmm…to me the movie was interesting with its strong bloody stylized violence - hacking, slashing scenes. NOT 18SG, it should be 18SSSSSSG - superb ganas!!! It’s not a horror movie as I did not see any ghost in the movie, BUT yes, NINJAS! This action movie scares me seriously. For some of the scenes, I almost have to close both my eyes and look at the small little corner of the cinema screen, just to avoid seeing these voilences. I really could not take it. But somehow, ninjas with acrobatic in that movie excites me.
One thing which I don’t like was the “tomato sauce or syrup” on the set. It’s too much; especially during the scene when Raizo does his first assignment fresh out of training to kill a middle-aged obese guy in a bathroom. Nothing feels real with the gallons of blood. One word – it’s geli. Warn you. For those who hate blood, don’t watch this movie. Heads are sliced in half and spill on the floor, legs are sliced off. Ninja throwing stars tear people apart.
This movie – so far so good. It might not the best for everyone, but I am sure Rain’s fans would never miss the movie. He is not a trained martial artist, but his fans would love his shredded body. Ahahaha! Nevertheless, he commanded screen presence with his graceful deadly fighting style. The quick cut editing may also help in masking some of the martial arts precision, I am sure his fans would not mind with this.
The ninja weapons really look interesting. Sword, TANTO (the mini knife), KUSARI-GAMA (scorpion tail chain blade), SHURIKEN (small little yet powerful flat piece of metal with sharpened points that were thrown at the enemy) & BO (the long bamboo stick used in the ninja's arsernal). BUT please don’t compare all these weapons with guns, bombs with explosions and whatever technology. Both are totally different kind of weapons, actions and techniques.
Lots of new action film releases in December. I think I am gonna catch up next with the Storm Warriors II, since I watched the first one 10 years ago. Yes, another action movie…but this is pretty much different with ninja fighting. Some similarities as in the fight scenes with swords (definitely), both also using masculine artists, heroes kena slashed till half-dead, bloody etc. So, grab yourself by the throat and hold your attention to the great action movie coming next!!!
Blood spurts everywhere? Then let us spurt the Pop Corns too!!!
